Serial number 001 of the 660 Summicron-M 66 f/2 lenses Leica has built is a lot at the 49th Leitz Photographica Auction at Leitz-Park, Wetzlar on 28 November, with the hammer price donated to the International Center of Photography. Whoever wins it will own the same lens as 659 other people, and a number none of them has. The 66mm focal length descends from the ELCAN 66mm f/2 that Dr. Walter Mandler developed at Ernst Leitz Canada for a classified US Navy project.
